Hudson Regional Health system emerges from CarePoint Health Systems

The final judicial step in the creation of Hudson Regional Health from CarePoint Health Systems was announced Tuesday by its chairman, Yan Moshe and Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, CEO of the hospital system.

The new health system is based in Secaucus and incorporates Hudson Regional Hospital in Secaucus, Christ Hospital in Jersey City, Hoboken University Medical Center, Bayonne Medical Center and more than 70 affiliated practice locations that include a spectrum of surgical and medical specialties as well as primary care.

On April 17, Bankruptcy Judge Kate Stickles entered an order confirming the Chapter 11 reorganization plan of CarePoint Health Systems Inc. and affiliated entities, paving the way for the creation of the system. The plan became effective on May 22.

Moshe, who transformed the former Meadowlands Hospital into Hudson Regional Hospital in 2018, is completing acquisition of all the hospital properties and the operations of Bayonne Medical Center. He will oversee the operations of the not-for-profits Hoboken University Medical Center and Christ Hospital.

“More than five years ago, it was clear to us that the only means of creating a thriving health-care environment in Hudson County was to recapitalize the property ownership and the operations of its four major hospitals into one high-performing, efficient and stable organization,” said Moshe.  “The community can now look forward to a leading blend of state-of-the-art medical facilities, pre-eminent providers and skilled management.”

In order to secure CarePoint’s exit from bankruptcy, Moshe provided more than $120 million in funding, enabling the former CarePoint facilities to be upgraded similarly to the program designed for Hudson Regional Hospital.

“Our innovations in Secaucus can now be scaled to provide even greater impact to the region,” said Kifaieh.

Hudson Regional previously announced a broad set of improvements and has proposed facility renovations and construction programs that will transform health-care offerings in each of its communities. The system will make a series of announcements as health-care programs are initiated and processes with various bodies proceed.
