3 N.J. small businesses recognized for branding strategy

Three New Jersey small businesses were cited for their branding strategies by Piktochart, a web-based graphic design tool and infographic maker.

The three Garden State businesses are Bang Cookies and Kanibal & Co. in Jersey City, and Little Egg Harbor Soap Company in Marmora. Piktochart surveyed 3,013 consumers and compiled a list of standout examples in every state, considering storefronts to Instagram feeds.

Bang Cookies was ranked as the 10th best-branded independent business. Piktochart cited the Jersey City company for its “bold fonts, chocolate-drip visuals, and over-the-top fun.” 

At No. 43 was Little Egg Harbor Soap Company in Marmora. Piktochart lauded its “soft hues, elegant labeling, and product lines inspired by the Jersey Shore, this soap company’s branding is equal parts calming and coastal. It feels natural, handmade, and just a little luxurious – a spa day in a seaside town.”

Kanibal & Co. of Jersey City came in at No. 106. Piktochart said the apparel, gifts, and home goods shop “fuses urban chic with homegrown heart. Their branding is artistic, imaginative and modern, with refined typography, moody product photography, and just the right amount of grit. It’s part lifestyle boutique, part love letter to local makers.”

Kentucky and Hawaii each had two independent businesses among Piktochart’s America’s top 10 best-branded independent businesses.

Piktochart believes strong branding makes a difference. The company said 88% of consumers said they would be more likely to shop at a small business if its branding looked better than the competition. And three in four admitted to buying something because the branding was that good.
