McCarter & English, LLP said Wednesday that Brett Kahn has rejoined the firm as a partner in its insurance recovery, litigation & counseling group. Kahn, a commercial litigator with a focus on insurance coverage, will be based in the firm’s Newark office.
Kahn began his legal career at McCarter & English and spent nearly 15 years at the firm before departing in January 2023. During his time away, he was a partner at Barnes & Thornburg, continuing his representation of policyholders in complex insurance coverage litigation.
His practice spans the pharmaceutical, manufacturing, commercial property, construction, and real estate industries. He handles a range of policyholder insurance coverage matters including general liability, property and personal liability, directors and officers, errors and omissions, employment practices liability insurance, and cyber risk insurance, among others. He also has experience advising those entering and investing into New Jersey’s growing cannabis industry.
“It truly feels like I am coming home. Since leaving McCarter two years ago, I have continued to work closely with the firm as co-counsel on several large matters for several clients, including a major pharmaceutical company,” Kahn said. “What my clients and others in my network need now is a broad bench of legal advisers in New Jersey and up and down the East Coast and McCarter has that in spades.”
“Brett is a smart, driven coverage attorney, experienced in guiding his clients through high-stakes insurance disputes, who understands the nuances of policyholder representation,” said Steven Weisman, chair of the insurance recovery, litigation & counseling group. “We are glad to have him back on our team. His client focus and growth mindset are reflective of the firm’s culture, so this is assuredly a win-win.”
