The Deborah Hospital Foundation announced July 9 the appointment of Laura Fredricks to its board of directors.
Fredricks is a philanthropic adviser, motivational speaker, attorney and book author. She is the founder and CEO of her own consulting firm, where she advises nonprofits and businesses on effective fundraising strategies, in particular during complex capital and major gift campaigns.
Fredricks is familiar with Deborah Heart and Lung Center. In the 1990s, she launched the hospital’s major gifts program, growing it to $6 million from $50,000 in just two years.
“It is a tremendous honor to welcome Laura back to the Deborah family,” said Jim Andrews, president and CEO of Deborah Heart and Lung Center and Deborah Hospital Foundation. “Laura is a national thought leader in philanthropy and fundraising with a unique history with our institution. Her knowledge, passion and commitment to excellence will be an invaluable asset to our board as we advance Deborah’s mission.”
Fredericks’ career includes serving as vice president of development at Temple University, where she oversaw fundraising for two hospitals, 15 schools and colleges, and the athletic department. She and her team were instrumental in securing the groundwork for the $25 million naming of the university’s medical school. She has also led fundraising at Pace University, raising $100 million during a six-year post-9/11 campaign.
She is the author of seven books on philanthropy and communication.
