Former Acting U.S. Attorney Khanna joins Sills Cummis to lead white collar practice

Sills Cummis & Gross P.C. announced that Vikas Khanna, former acting U.S. attorney for the District of New Jersey, has joined the firm as chair of its white collar practice group, based in the firm’s Newark office.

In both government service and private practice, Khanna has earned a reputation for calm leadership in high-stakes, high-visibility situations and matters of national importance. At Sills Cummis, he will focus his practice on white collar criminal defense and advising corporations, boards, executives, governmental leaders and individuals who face government investigations, regulatory scrutiny or complex litigation.

“Sills Cummis has long been recognized as one of the top firms in New Jersey, and I’m proud to continue building my career here,” said Khanna. “What drew me to the firm is its strong white collar platform, high-level work, collaborative culture and commitment to client success. Given the current enforcement landscape, there’s a need for experienced counsel who understand how to investigate wrongdoing and navigate government scrutiny. I look forward to expanding our practice and helping clients manage these complex challenges.”

Khanna’s move to private practice marks a significant moment in New Jersey’s legal landscape. A highly respected federal prosecutor with deep ties to the region, Khanna joins Sills Cummis as the firm continues to build strength in white collar defense and high-stakes litigation. He most recently served as acting and first assistant U.S. attorney in the District of New Jersey, where he ran every aspect of the office and led investigations and prosecutions involving corporate fraud, securities violations, health care fraud and other complex matters.

His work spans a broad range of industries, including health care, financial services, technology and other highly regulated sectors.

“We are excited to welcome Vikas to the firm,” said Max Crane, managing partner of Sills Cummis & Gross. “His extensive experience leading high-profile investigations and advising clients in complex, high-stakes matters will be a tremendous asset. His insight and leadership will strengthen the depth of our white collar practice and enhance the strategic counsel we provide to clients navigating regulatory scrutiny and government enforcement.”

Khanna earned a bachelor’s degree in politics, summa cum laude, at Princeton University and a law degree, cum laude, from Harvard Law School.
