Middlesex College names Stephen executive director of human resources

Middlesex College has named Lynarkah Stephen as its next executive director of human resources, following a nationwide search. Stephen arrives at the college after serving as a human resources leader for educational institutions such as The Goddard School, The college of New Jersey (TCNJ) and Montclair State University.

Stephen will serve as the institutional leader for human resources, providing leadership in the planning, organization, direction and implementation of a comprehensive human resources program that aligns with the strategic plan and mission of the college.

“I am pleased to welcome Lynarkah Stephen to Middlesex College as our next executive director of human resources,” said Middlesex College President Mark McCormick. “Lyn brings extensive experience in higher education and a strong track record of strategic leadership in human resources. Her commitment to fostering inclusive, supportive workplace environments will be instrumental as we continue to attract and retain top talent. I look forward to working with her to advance a culture where every employee feels valued and empowered to contribute to our mission.”

“As a leader, the moments I value most are when my presence helps others feel seen and inspired to be their best selves,” said Stephen.

Stephen has held several HR leadership roles, including at TCNJ, where she led key initiatives to strengthen employee engagement, streamline operations and support a diverse and inclusive campus environment. At Montclair State University, she guided HR practices across six divisions and supported a large, unionized workforce.

She currently serves as an HR consultant for The Goddard School, supporting talent strategy, performance management and employee engagement across multiple locations. Her deep expertise in employee relations, talent management and organizational development makes her well-positioned to advance Middlesex College’s commitment to cultivating a strong, student-centered community.

Stephen received her bachelor’s degree in English and master’s degree in legal studies, both from Montclair State University. She is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR) and holds numerous other certifications including the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certificate, Certified Corporate Assistant certificate and a Public Sector Labor Relations certificate.
