Barnes & Noble, McGraw-Hill partner on course materials

Basking Ridge-based Barnes & Noble Education Inc. and McGraw-Hill Education have partnered to provide students, faculty and institutions greater access to affordable course materials.

The companies will focus on two initiatives: the distribution of McGraw-Hill e-content on campuses served by BNED and the distribution of McGraw-Hill new rental titles through BNED channels.

“Both Barnes & Noble Education and McGraw-Hill Education are committed to supporting student success,” said Patrick Maloney, chief operating officer of Barnes & Noble Education and president of Barnes & Noble College. “Working together, we can ensure students have access to the largest selection of the most affordable course materials, helping them to succeed in the classroom and beyond.”

Inclusive access models, including Barnes & Noble College’s First Day model, offer discounted course materials through a participating course programs fee. The models ensure students get their materials before or on the first day of class. The partnership allows for the McGraw-Hill content to be offered through programs at nearly 1,485 schools served by Barnes & Noble Education.

“We are excited to continue working with Barnes & Noble Education to increase affordability and improve outcomes for students,” said Bill Okun, president of higher education at McGraw-Hill Education. “Our new rental program, along with Inclusive Access models that make our digital courseware and adaptive capabilities available to students from the first day of class, play important roles in driving value for students across the country.”

BNED will also act as a distributor for rental textbooks offered through McGraw-Hill’s rental program. The program has more than 250 copyright 2019 titles with plans for future titles. It will be made available to MBS Systems, wholesale and direct customers.

“We are excited to strengthen our partnership with McGraw-Hill Education, utilizing our large footprint of nearly 1,485 stores to distribute their rental titles,” Maloney said. “Barnes & Noble Education’s combined resources and expertise in administering rental programs, in addition to our extensive campus relationships, will enable us to bring McGraw-Hill Education’s titles to a wide audience of students seeking high-quality, affordable options.”
