NRBP adds Tukel, dean of NJIT’s management school, to board of directors

The Newark Regional Business Partnership said Feb. 2 it appointed Oya Tukel, dean of the Martin Tuchman School of Management at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), to its board of directors.

A nationally recognized academic and business leader, Tukel brings an entrepreneurial mindset to her role at NJIT, leading its management school with a clear vision centered on innovation, applied learning and the integration of technology and business. Now in her seventh year as dean, she has guided the school’s transformation into an institution known for data-driven decision-making, fintech education and preparing students to lead in a technology-driven world.

“Oya is a visionary leader who understands how education, technology, and business intersect to drive economic growth,” said Ferlanda Fox Nixon, president and CEO of NRBP. “Her experience building strong partnerships with industry leaders and her commitment to continuous improvement align with NRBP’s mission to advance a thriving and inclusive Greater Newark region.”

Tukel’s appointment to the NRBP Board of Directors further strengthens the organization’s connection to the region’s higher education and innovation ecosystem. Her perspective as an academic leader with deep ties to industry will support NRBP’s work to align employers, institutions, and talent around shared economic priorities for the region.

NJIT is a longtime member of NRBP and a committed partner in strengthening the region’s business community. This partnership has included serving as the host sponsor of NRBP’s Engage and Exchange podcast for two consecutive years, and the 2025 Regional Economic Outlook forum and sponsoring the 2026 Leadership Summit.

As NRBP continues to convene leaders across sectors, Tukel’s expertise will help inform strategies that reinforce Newark’s position as a hub for technology-driven growth. Additionally, her commitment to continuous improvement will be a valuable asset as the organization advances initiatives that benefit the entire community.

As the premier chamber of commerce serving the Greater Newark region, the Newark Regional Business Partnership creates opportunities for businesses of all sizes, nonprofits, and community leaders to connect, expand their networks, strengthen their organizations, and contribute to a vibrant and competitive Greater Newark economic ecosystem.
