U.S. News & World Report has released its 2019 Best Graduate Schools rankings.
This year’s rankings rates programs in business, education, engineering, law, medicine and nursing, among others.
The ranking methodology varies by each category, considering factors like test scores of entering students, job placement rates, starting salaries or recent graduates, academic quality ratings by officials at peer institutions and opinions of hiring managers.
The following is each category, broken down by the New Jersey schools that placed on the list.
Business
Rutgers Business School (Newark and New Brunswick) placed No. 44 in the full-time MBA programs rankings. According to U.S. News, it currently has enrollment of 118 with tuition at $26,317 per year for in-state, full-time students and $45,689 per year for out-of-state, full-time students.
The University of Chicago’s Booth School of Business and Harvard Business School tied for the top spot of this category.
Education
New Jersey placed twice in the graduate education programs rankings, with Rutgers’ Graduate School of Education (New Brunswick) coming in at No. 43 and Montclair State University’s College of Education and Human Services at No. 89.
The University of California – Los Angeles was at the top of the education list.
Engineering
The Garden State showed big time in the rankings of the graduate engineering programs, with four colleges ranked in the Top 100. Overall, Massachusetts Institute of Technology led the pack at No. 1.

Law
Seton Hall University’s School of Law cracked the Top 100 in the law school programs, coming in at No. 59. Rutgers Law School (Newark and Camden) also made the Top 100, at No. 74.
Seton Hall Law has full-time enrollment in its graduate program of 384, with students paying about $53,000 in tuition. For its graduate law program, Rutgers has 864 full-time students. They pay approximately $27,492 if in-state and $40,136 if out-of-state.
Yale Law School ranked No. 1 overall in this category.
Medicine
Three New Jersey schools were represented in this category.
The Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (New Brunswick) was at the top of the list for New Jersey, coming in with a research rank of No. 72 and a primary care rank of No. 90. The school had a full-time enrollment of 729 and tuition of about $40,000 in-state and $61,834 out-of-state.

Harvard Medical School ranked No. 1 in the research-based medical school rankings and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill was No. 1 in the primary care rankings.
Nursing
The biggest category for New Jersey representation was the nursing master’s programs rankings. Five schools placed on the list.
They were:
Rutgers University’s School of Nursing (Newark) broke the Top 20 overall, with a master’s rank of No. 20 and a Doctor of Nursing Practice programs rank of No. 16.
Next was Seton Hall University’s College of Nursing, which broke into the Top 100, with a master’s rank of No. 65 and a DNP rank of No. 83.
