Montclair State announces landmark $75M campaign; nearly $61M already raised

Montclair State University has announced the largest fundraising campaign in its history, a $75 million effort dubbed “Soar, the Campaign for Montclair State University.”

The campaign, which is entering its public phase, represents the largest fundraising goal in the college’s 110-year history, it said in a news release. It is focused on three main priorities, the college added: educating the next generation of leaders, sustaining a vibrant research and academic community and enhancing the university’s student-centered campus.

Montclair State already has raised $60.6 million during the quiet phase of the campaign, it said.

“Soar is based on the premise that affordable, quality higher education matters greatly in a democratic society,” President Susan A. Cole said in a prepared statement. “The campaign is designed to enhance the university’s ability to provide a vibrant educational environment where students, regardless of their financial means, are challenged and empowered to succeed; an environment where faculty members have the resources to conduct important research that addresses the needs of society; and an environment where the entire campus community has access to facilities that are conducive to 21st-century teaching and learning.”

The campaign has already raised more than $31 million toward funding advanced centers of research, Montclair State said.

In addition, the campaign aims to raise $30 million in new scholarship funds as well as $10 million to improve the College Hall building, athletic facilities and other portions of campus, among other goals.

“Our donors give because they believe in the work that we are doing and because they believe in our students, our faculty and our university community,” Cole said. “Montclair State University has a compelling story to tell, and our donors understand that education is an incredibly powerful tool.”
