Palisades Medical Center gets $10M gift to expand emergency department

The Palisades Medical Center, part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network, announced Monday that it has received a $10 million contribution to enhance and expand the Palisades Medical Center Emergency Department.

The gift was provided by John C. Meditz, a lifelong resident of Hudson County.

“We are deeply grateful for John’s motivational leadership and inspirational generosity,” Robert C. Garrett, CEO of Hackensack Meridian Health, said. “A valued member of our health care team of benefactors and trustees, John cares deeply about leading by example in order to elevate and advance the health and well-being of others.”

Meditz’s gift is the largest in the history of the medical center, it said.

“We have long benefitted from John’s generosity and counsel and his latest gift is transformational for our medical center,” said Anthony Passannante, M.D., president of Palisades Medical Center. “John is directly aligned with our vision to grow and evolve as part of the Hackensack Meridian Health network.”

Meditz is co-founder of Horizon Asset Management, now Horizon Kinetics LLC, and was appointed to the Palisades Medical Center board of governors in 1997 having served as chair from 2009 to 2011. He currently serves as chair of the Palisades Foundation board, a member of the Hackensack University Medical Center Foundation board and as a mebmer of the Hackensack Meridian board of trustees.

“John’s leadership and outstanding example will strengthen our fundraising outreach as we work to fund our strategic priorities,” Joseph Burt, vice president of development, Hackensack Meridian Health, said. “In gratitude and recognition, we are honored to name our main hospital building the John C. Meditz Medical Pavilion.”

“I am committed to making a positive difference on behalf of Palisades Medical Center’s patients and their families as the medical center expands even further through Hackensack Meridian Health, with groundbreaking initiatives including the Center for Discovery and Innovation, to foster the emergence of medical breakthroughs,” Meditz said. “It is my pleasure and privilege to do what I can to help.”
