Sax LLP Founder’s Awards gifts $15K to winner Oasis

Sax LLP, an accounting, tax and advisory firm based in Clifton, recently held its second annual Founder’s Awards to celebrate local nonprofits and award one with a $15,000 gift to use toward its mission.

Sax said its not-for-profit practice had an application process and received nearly 150 nonprofit submissions for the award. Of the 150, the Top 75 were invited to the event to celebrate.

The winner was announced at the ceremony on Jan. 24 at the Stony Hill In in Hackensack.

Oasis – a Haven for Women and Children, a nonprofit based in Paterson, was named the winner of the 2018 Founder’s Award and was gifted $15,000 to support its mission of changing “the lives of women and children by breaking the cycle of poverty through compassionate programs designed to feed, clothe, educate, and empower women and children in need.”

“Oasis is so grateful to the be the recipient of Sax’s Founder’s Award this year.  This award will enable us to further our mission to help women and children in Paterson, N.J. rise out of poverty through education and holistic programs that take away the stumbling blocks and empower success,” Jennifer Brady, executive director of Oasis, said.

“It is the 700 women and children who walk through our doors each day looking for hope and help that motivate us to do more and to be better. This award will help to ensure we can respond to the needs of this community and help some of our most vulnerable neighbors create brighter futures. Thank you to Sax for the support of our organization and recognizing our efforts to inspire others.”

In addition to the winner, two runner-ups were selected for their efforts toward inspiration.

Second place and 40 volunteer hours for its mission was awarded to The Jed Foundation, a New York City-based nonprofit that aims to equip teens and young adults with skills and support to grow into healthy, thriving adults. Third place and 25 volunteer hours for its mission was awarded to Home Sharing Inc., a Bridgewater-based nonprofit that works to prevent homelessness through shared affordable housing.

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. was the event’s community partner. Todd Smith, who previously served as vice president of the board of directors of Community Hope for seven years, was the keynote speaker.
