Edison Properties: Acupuncture, wellness center to open at Ironside Newark

An acupuncture and wellness center has leased the third storefront retail space at Ironside Newark, according to Edison Properties.

The Newark-based real estate holding and development company said it signed a lease with SportsMed Physical Therapy for 2,124 square feet at 110 Edison Place. It is expected to open in spring 2021.

Ironside Newark is a former circa-1907 warehouse in downtown Newark that has been redeveloped and restored by Edison Properties into a 456,000-square-foot commercial and retail hub. It sits right next to Newark Penn Station and is within close access to Newark Liberty International Airport and the new Mulberry Commons Park, a city-owned park. It was designed by New York City-based design and architecture firm Perkins Eastman.

“Ironside Newark is the perfect site for our first Newark location, a centrally located business hub in the city’s downtown neighborhood,” Dr. Peter Ponzini, co-CEO of SportsMed Physical Therapy, said. “We’re delighted to partner with Edison Properties to bring world-class physical therapy and wellness services to greater Newark.”

Ironside Newark is currently 76% occupied with major tenants including Mars Wrigley Confectionery‘s North American headquarters, design and architecture firm Ware Malcomb, law firms Pearlman & Miranda and Robinson Miller, and the new headquarters for Edison Properties.

“SportsMed Physical Therapy is a great addition to the growing retail offerings at Ironside Newark, and a testament to the building’s attractive location next to mass transit and the redevelopment of the downtown Newark business district,” Lenny Lazzarino, senior vice president of leasing, Edison Properties, said. “SportsMed Physical Therapy has a great brand known throughout northern New Jersey, and we welcome them to the Edison Properties family.”

Amenities at Ironside Newark include a soon-to-open restaurant with outdoor seating, a two-story lobby atrium, a rooftop terrace, dark fiber optics, open workspaces, and more.

“Ironside has been a driving force in Newark’s ongoing evolution as a major hub of commerce, shopping and business,” Aisha Glover, CEO and president of Newark Alliance, said. “I’m excited for SportsMed Physical Therapy to call Newark home and continue growing the downtown community offerings.”

Pierson Commercial Real Estate’s Jason Pierson and Ryan Starkman represented Edison Properties.  Keller Williams City Views Realty‘s Tony Nabhan represented SportsMed Physical Therapy.
