The New Jersey Hospital Association has named a new chairman, as well as other board officers, it announced recently.
Douglas A. Struyk, CEO and president of Christian Health Care Center in Wyckoff, represents the organization’s first board chair from the post-acute/long-term care and behavioral health sector, the NJHA said. It noted that its 400 members cover the entire continuum of health care providers, not just hospitals.
“Last March, we were all momentarily stunned when COVID infiltrated our state,” Struyk said in his installation speech. “None of us had ever experienced a public health crisis on this level. We ourselves were frightened, but our chief responsibility is promoting and ensuring the health and well-being of the people of this great state, and we would not falter because of the pandemic.
The organization, which held its 102nd Annual Meeting in virtual form due to the pandemic, also installed:
- Lori Herndon, CEO and president of AtlantiCare, as vice chair;
- Edward J. Condit, CEO and president of St. Mary’s General Hospital, as treasurer;
- Bill Arnold, CEO and president, Southern Region, RWJBarnabas Health, and interim CEO and president, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, as secretary.
New board members include: Robert Holmes Adams, president, Hackettstown and Newton medical centers; Shereef Elnahal, CEO and president, University Hospital; Patrick Gavin, CEO and president, Hunterdon Healthcare System; Leslie Hirsch, CEO and president, Saint Peter’s Healthcare System; Michael McLaughlin, immediate past chair, Inspira Health; Michael Maron, CEO and president, Holy Name Medical Center; and Anthony Scardino, trustee, Hackensack Meridian Health.
Struyk succeeds Kevin J. Slavin, president of St. Joseph’s Health, as chair.
