Stevens partnering with Real Madrid (yes, that Real Madrid) on master’s program in sports technology

In what is believed to be a first-of-its-kind program, Stevens Institute of Technology is teaming with the Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea in a program where students can earn dual master’s degrees in sports and technology.

Starting in August 2021, graduate students can accelerate their education and earn two master’s degrees within two to three semesters while benefiting from residencies on both campuses — in Hoboken and in Madrid.

Students will be able to pursue a master’s degree from Stevens in business administration, business intelligence and analytics or information systems, while earning a graduate degree in sports technologies and digital transformation from Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea.

Students also benefit from professional internships under the framework of Real Madrid Next, a collaboration of startup and established companies and the Real Madrid C.F. professional soccer club, as well as have opportunities to engage with professionals and managers of Real Madrid C.F.

Gregory Prastacos, dean of the School of Business at Stevens, said the collaboration will provide students with a practical and in-depth knowledge and proficiency in the latest technologies used in sports — including data analysis, virtual reality, blockchain and geolocation — while considering the importance in applying the right strategies to achieve optimal performance.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Real Madrid Graduate School, one of the biggest names in the sports world, and offer these programs with Universidad Europea,” he said. “As technology and analytics continue to transform the sports industry, these degrees will prepare our students for exciting and innovative opportunities in this ever-changing landscape.”

Students will begin the program at Stevens for the core subject courses and at Real Madrid Graduate School–Universidad Europea for sports performance and Big Data and artificial intelligence in sports management.

Following completion, the students will travel to EURM-UE in Madrid for five weeks for an additional three courses, including smart venues, sports technologies context and an immersive internship.

In addition, they will receive an invitation to the White Week, an annual summer celebrity sports event for students, with masterclasses and networking opportunities promoting entrepreneurialism, teamwork, integrity, leadership and excellence at Real Madrid C.F. Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
