BD, the Franklin Lakes-based medical technology company, has acquired a developer and maker of a resorbable polymer technology to grow its product offerings, it announced Tuesday.
The deal for Massachusetts-based Tepha Inc. gives BD, also known as Becton, Dickinson & Co., a platform that could grow its surgical mesh portfolio and give it access to new areas of the soft tissue repair market. It also integrates a vital supply chain component for BD’s current mesh products.
Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“This strategic acquisition advances BD’s category leadership in surgical mesh and enables future innovations to provide new solutions to physicians and their patients,” Kevin Kelly, worldwide president for BD Surgery, said in a prepared statement. “Tepha’s proprietary polymer is used in BD’s current Phasix Mesh products and is the key technology that enables our products to provide short-term support for soft tissue repairs, while enabling rapid tissue ingrowth and reabsorbing into the body over time.
“The acquisition — including its current and potential applications — will help ensure BD can continually provide physicians with the latest technology to treat their patients.”
BD has partnered with Tepha for more than a decade, Kelly noted, and the deal represents the sixth acquisition for BD in 2021.
