Cooper honored by Aetna Institute for its cardiac care

Cooper University Health Care has been designated an Aetna Institute of Quality Cardiac Care Facility for comprehensive heart and vascular treatment, the system announced.

Aetna recognizes hospitals and facilities in its network that offer specialized clinical services for certain health conditions. Facilities are selected for consistently delivering evidence-based, safe care.

Cooper co-CEO Kevin O’Dowd said the system is proud of the recognition.

“As a leading academic health system, Cooper has specialists who are well-known for clinical excellence, medical breakthroughs and innovation,” he said. “This designation is independent validation of Cooper’s commitment to providing the most advanced cardiac and vascular care with the best outcomes in South Jersey.”

Cooper has routinely earned national recognition for its cardiac services. Earlier this year, Cooper was named as one of the Top 10 hospitals in New Jersey and as a top-performing hospital nationally by U.S. News & World Report in nine specialty services, including heart failure, abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, aortic valve surgery and heart attack, among others.

In 2018, Cooper and Inspira Health Network formed a joint venture to integrate cardiac services in the region. This affiliation, called Cardiac Partners at Cooper and Inspira, provides patients in southern New Jersey with access to more coordinated cardiac services across the continuum of care. As a leading academic health system and the only Level 1 Trauma Center serving all of southern New Jersey, Cooper provides the most comprehensive, advanced cardiac care and has earned national recognition for its superior quality and team of cardiovascular experts.

Cooper co-CEO Dr. Anthony Mazzarelli said the award is the result of the work of many.

“The recognition of Cooper as an Aetna Institute of Quality Cardiac Care Facility is the direct result of the efforts of our dedicated clinical and support team,” he said. “When people choose Cooper for their care, they can have confidence knowing that they will receive the highest quality, personalized care they deserve.”
