Phase I of redevelopment at historic Edison factory is near completion

The industrial-to-residential redevelopment of the historic Edison Factory in West Orange into The Mews at Edison Lofts is near completion, according to developer Prism Capital Partners.

Some of the first residents have already moved in, Prism said, like Alexander Howze, a longtime West Orange resident.

“It’s exciting to be at the forefront as other residents begin to move in, and stores and restaurants plan their openings,” said Howze. “I graduated from West Orange High School, and my mom still lives in town. I have a wonderful history here and am thrilled to be living at The Mews.”

The Mews features 34 one- and two-bedroom homes ready for immediate occupancy, Prism said. It sits on 21 acres on Main Street in the heart of West Orange’s downtown redevelopment area.

Phase I of the project includes The Mews and The Residences at Edison Lofts, which is the renovation and reconstruction of the 100-year old factory complex. When complete, it will have 334 rental units, 18,400 square feet of retail and 630 parking spaces.

The residences range from 796 to 1,336 square feet and monthly rents start at $2,100.

Residents of The Mews and The Residences will have access to amenities including a private fitness center, indoor swimming pool, bike storage, a media room, business center, private dining room, storage, doorman and concierge service. The property also will have a rooftop lounge, landscaped grounds, covered parking and a dog washing station. It also will provide residents a shuttle service to and from the Orange Train Station.

Prism said it will finish The Residences at Edison lofts this spring, adapting the original 1913 building into 300 studio, one-, two-, and three-bedroom homes ranging from 590 to 1,500 square feet with 20 penthouse duplex residences.

“Edison Village is a project of incredible quality — one that celebrates the rich history of the area while serving to anchor the future of this community,” Edwin Cohen, Prism’s principal partner, said. Prism Capital Partners is an experienced real estate owner/operator with a proven track record of creating value through select real estate investments and developments. “We are delighted to welcome our first residents, like Alexander, and know they will enjoy the unique living experience in Edison Village.”
