Discovery Behavioral Health acquires Ambrosia Treatment Center

Discovery Behavioral Health, a Los Angeles-based provider of mental health services, has acquired Ambrosia Treatment Center of Medford, a New Jersey-based facility providing adult treatment for drug and alcohol addiction.

The center has been renamed the Pinelands Recovery Center.

“The center’s large campus of forested land, nestled in the gateway to the Pinelands State and National Forest in southern New Jersey — just 20 miles from Philadelphia — affords the perfect combination of privacy and a comfortable setting to facilitate treatment,” Joseph Curran, executive director, said.

The Pinelands Recover Center is located on 44-acres in South Jersey and offers patients complete residential, along with partial hospitalization, services. It also has amenities including a tennis court and gourmet chef.

Discover Behavioral Health said the deal comes at a time when the opioid epidemic has “engulfed” the area.

According to the Center for Disease Control, the nationwide figure for fatal overdoses has decreased between 2016 and 2017. However, in New Jersey, there’s been a 36 percent uptick in fatal overdoses.

Christian Losch, program director, said a lot of the time overdoses happen because there are no available treatment options.

“Our area of the country continues to suffer the brunt of the nation’s opioid epidemic. Too often, fatal overdose deaths are the result of a lack of available treatment. Pinelands Recovery Center with its long history of providing medically scientific, evidence-based treatment of drug and alcohol addiction is committed to helping turn the tide in the region’s worst health crisis,” Losch said.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Ambrosia has a reputation of delivering exceptional patient care, and we are excited to provide a broader array of behavioral health services to an underserved population. New Jersey and Pennsylvania are among the states most seriously affected by the opioid epidemic. Our combined team is comprised of talented and compassionate industry professionals who share the same core values of quality care and 24/7 family support. By combining the latest advancements in addiction medicine with concierge clinical care, we strive to ensure real progress every single day,” John Peloquin, Discovery Behavioral Health CEO, said.
