Two-tower residential development to break ground in Jersey City

Parkview Apartments, a two-tower residential development, will break ground soon in the Lafayette section of Jersey City, adjacent to Berry Lane Park, the city’s newest green space.

New Jersey firms Dresdner Robin and Monteforte Architectural Studio will be providing engineering, architecture, landscape, surveying and planning services for the project.

The project includes two 89-foot buildings that will each have seven stories over two floors of parking. The towers, which will break ground in the next few days, are slated for completion by the end of 2021. The complex will have 170 rental units with 65 one-bedroom, 95 two-bedroom and 10 three-bedroom homes.

“This project modernizes an entire city block, bringing infrastructure and community improvements to the area surrounding the Garfield Avenue Light Rail station,” said Joseph Mele, director of civil engineering at Dresdner Robin, said. “Our firm has worked closely with the developer and community stakeholders to ensure that this project becomes a worthy complement to nearby Berry Lane Park and the city’s overall growth.”

The buildings, which were developed by Wallabout Realty Holdings, will be located at 87-99 Van Horn St. and 72-78 Woodward St. A new road will be created to connect the dead ends of the two streets, improving circulation and access to the area.

“The typology of this project had to complement its surroundings, rather than becoming an obstacle,” Principal Architect James Monteforte said. “To do so, we designed two towers emerging from a base that holds the unit together. The essential aesthetic of the Parkview Apartments is to be a beacon of life and vibrancy to the surrounding community.”

Parkview Apartments will also have 18 moderate-income housing units.

“Jersey City had an extraordinary vision for Berry Lane Park, which has been instrumental in stimulating a largely underdeveloped area,” Mele said. “Upon completion, Parkview Apartments will inspire continued growth as it overlooks the vibrancy of the park.”
