Cigna to move 2,100 employees to former Honeywell HQ in Morris Plains

Company, which signed 10-year lease for 200,000 sq. ft., will move employees from now-closing Franklin Lakes office

Cigna, a multinational managed health care and insurance company, is moving approximately 2,100 employees to the former Honeywell International headquarters building in Morris Plains, ROI-NJ has learned.

Cigna signed a 10-year lease for approximately 200,000 square feet. The company did not announce when it will begin occupation of the building.

The employees will not be new to New Jersey. Most will be coming from the company’s Franklin Lakes office, which Cigna earlier announced it was putting up for sale. The great majority of the employees work at Evernorth, Cigna’s health services business that also encompasses Express Scripts.

The company is based in Bloomfield, Connecticut, but has a large presence in New Jersey. The Morris Plains office is believed to be its largest location in the state.

A Cigna spokesperson said the jobs will include a mix of on-site, flex and work-from-home employees — all of which is subject to adjustment based on the status of the pandemic.

About Cigna

Cigna is a global health service company that offers health, pharmacy, dental, supplemental insurance and Medicare plans to individuals, families and businesses. It is based in Bloomfield, Connecticut.

“We continually assess our operations to ensure we are best meeting the needs of our business, customers and clients,” the spokesperson said. “As a result of our ongoing analysis, we are securing new office space in Morris Plains that offers the accessibility, flexibility and conveniences that suits the needs of our employees.

“Most of the Evernorth employees that currently work at our Franklin Lakes site, which has been listed for sale, will eventually relocate to our new Morris Plains office.”

Honeywell opened the 465,000-square-foot office building in 2015, as part of the company’s move from nearby Morris Township. Honeywell has since moved its corporate headquarters to Charlotte, North Carolina — though it retains a strong presence in New Jersey.

In January, Honeywell officials announced they were selling the property, but will remain as a tenant.

The property, which is close to interstates 287 and 80, is believed to have approximately 100,000 square feet of space still available.

Representatives from Argent Ventures LLC, a Manhattan-based investment firm that purchased the property from Honeywell, did not immediately provide a comment on the leasing.
