TechLaunch’s latest award goes to health tech platform for non-English speakers

A health tech platform for non-English speakers won the top prize at the recent TechLaunch BullPen #22 pitch contest, the tech organization announced Thursday.

Three startups participated in the event, with EZ Health taking home the Investor Award and $15,000 worth of professional services from event partners, as well as guaranteed pitching slots at upcoming meetings of the Jumpstart NJ Angel Network and Tech Council Ventures.

EZ Health connects patients with doctors who speak their native language, enabling video visits within its platform, and making health care easier and more accessible for these non-English speakers.

“The best part of participating in BullPen #22 was the mentorship program before the pitch and, specifically, the help we got from our mentor, Perri Richman,” EZ Health founder and CEO Etizaz Shah said in a prepared statement. “BullPen will significantly help us in enhancing our network of investors and mentors.”

The other two presenters at the event were Stereotheque, a collaboration tool for creatives that connects businesses with creative teams; and Ironbound Media, a podcast production studio and network that helps veteran-owned businesses engage customers.

“Our vetting process continues to attract strong contenders vying for the esteemed Investor prize at BullPen,” TechLaunch founder and Managing Director Mario Casabona said in a statement. “We’re gratified to also observe an emerging cause-related passion among New Jersey-based entrepreneurs seeking out the wise counsel of our seasoned stable of mentors.”

Judges for the competition included Judith Sheft, executive director of the Commission on Science, Innovation & Technology; Sandford Wollman, co-founder and managing director of Westchester Angels; Kiyana Glass-Miller, an information technology professional and angel investor; and Seth Troopper, an entrepreneur and innovator. Partners who awarded advisory services included Gibbons Law, Gearhart Law and Casabona Venture.

BullPen #23 is slated for Feb. 9, 2022, and tech startups can apply here.
