A super market: Inserra opens 80,000 sq. ft. ShopRite of Wayne Hills

Larry Inserra and Inserra Supermarkets have long dominated the North Jersey supermarket scene, with 23 ShopRite stores in Bergen, Hudson and Passaic counties.

On Sunday morning, he gained another reason to say bigger is better, with the opening of the ShopRite of Wayne Hills, a state-of-the-art, 80,000-square-foot supermarket at 30 Wayne Hills Mall.

The facility, which replaces a smaller store on Hamburg Turnpike, includes a ShopRite gourmet kitchen, staffed with professionally trained chefs serving restaurant-quality meals daily, a wellness center and an in-store registered dietitian.

It also will feature hallmark Inserra Supermarkets features, including Patsy’s Butcher meat department with trained butchers; from-scratch fresh bake shop offering store made bread, cakes and pastries; seafood department with fresh, daily deliveries; produce department with a large selection of organic and locally grown fruits and vegetables; and a floral department.

“We are proud to celebrate the grand opening of the new ShopRite of Wayne Hills, our largest supermarket yet,” Inserra said. “This new store demonstrates our continued commitment to the community and family promise to offer incredible value, quality and service to our shoppers.”

Established in 1954 by Patsy Inserra as a privately held family business, Inserra Supermarkets is a member of the retailer-owned cooperative Wakefern Food Corp.

Inserra said Inserra Supermarkets remains true to its roots as a family-owned grocery business committed to serving local communities, with third- and fourth-generation family members operating the stores and continuing the family tradition of caring for and supporting local communities.

Inserra said the store will offer both traditional and self-checkout lanes as well as the online personal shopping service, ShopRite from Home, which offers store pickup and home delivery options.
