For St. Joseph’s, opening of Totowa Health Campus is just the start

More is planned for state-of-the-art outpatient facility that brings together advanced services to enhance clinical excellence

You can call it a one-stop shop for health care services, a state-of-the-art outpatient facility that will provide access to primary, urgent and specialty care services under one roof — or, simply, the beginning of a transformation of health care in the Totowa region.

Officials at St. Joseph’s Health said the new Totowa Health Campus is part of a wave of the future — a multispecialty care model that offers convenient access to health care services in a seamless and efficient way for patients and their families.

St. Joseph’s Health President Kevin Slavin said the 140,000-square-foot facility, located at 225 Minnisink Road in Totowa, will have great impact.

Kevin Slavin speaks at the event.

“We’re excited to bring a new outpatient facility to the surrounding community,” he said during a ribbon-cutting presentation last Friday. “We’ve created a one-stop model in this new setting, where access to multiple services, at one location, will enhance overall patient experience and improve clinical outcomes.”

The St. Joseph’s Health Totowa Health Campus will integrate a comprehensive listing of outpatient services, including primary and urgent care, diagnostic imaging including MRI and CT, radiology, lab services and pharmacy all under one roof. A host of medical and surgical physician offices are located on the campus, including cardiology, urology and gynecology, along with specialty centers including rehabilitation and physical therapy.

In October, the campus will take another big step in care as it will add a comprehensive Cancer Center.

“St. Joseph’s Health is growing to deliver the right care at the right time and the right place,” Slavin said. “The new campus provides an innovative setting that incorporates seamless access to a variety of St. Joseph’s high-quality services.”

Wilfredo Fernandez, chairman of the St. Joseph’s Health board of trustees, said the facility represents another step forward in care.

Wilfredo Fernandez speaks at the event.

“St. Joseph’s Health has successfully redesigned the delivery of health care with the integration of numerous specialists and health care services into one location,” he said.

“As the health care landscape continues to change and evolve, St. Joseph’s Health is committed to providing world-class health care, delivering the most comprehensive and innovative treatments for our patients and area residents, right in their own backyard.”

The effort to serve those residents is just beginning.

The new Totowa Health Campus is situated in the Totowa Medical Arts Complex and is part of CHA Partners’ Master Plan for the transformation of the former 140-acre North Jersey Development Center campus.

The Most Rev. Kevin Sweeney delivers a blessing.

CHA Managing Partner William Colgan said the multiphase plan for the property also includes the ground-up construction of a senior living facility, data center and research & development projects that will total 1.028 million square feet.

“This project was many years in the making,” he said. “We’re honored to stand alongside St. Joseph’s Health and all of the various stakeholders who made today’s opening possible.

“The Totowa community and surrounding regions will undoubtedly benefit from the opening of this facility, which will provide a comprehensive array of health care services, including the most technologically advanced cancer treatment center in the area.”

The Totowa Health Campus opened Friday during a special ceremony that included a ribbon cutting and a blessing by the Most Rev. Kevin Sweeney, bishop of the Diocese of Paterson. More than 100 people attended the event, including U.S. Rep. Bill Pascrell (D-9th Dist.), state Sen. Kristen Corrado (R-Totowa) and Totowa Mayor John Coiro.
