Seven hospitals in New Jersey were ranked on Newsweek magazine’s list of the top hospitals in the world.
Newsweek, which partnered with market and consumer data analytics company Statista to form the list, ranked a total of 2,300 hospitals from 28 countries — including 414 in the U.S.
As is often the case, Morristown Medical Center and Hackensack University Medical Center were the two top New Jersey honorees, with Morristown (No. 46) edging HUMC (No. 57) for the top spot in the state. Here are the five others who made the U.S. list:
No. 121: Valley Hospital
No. 167: Overlook Medical Center
No. 201: Newark Beth Israel Medical Center
No. 317: Englewood Hospital and Medical Center
No. 406: Monmouth Medical Center
Newsweek and Statista developed a rigorous methodology to ensure the quality and validity of the ranking. Four data sources were used for the evaluation:
- Hospital recommendations from medical experts: an international online survey that included more than 80,000 doctors, hospital managers and health care professionals;
- Patient experience: surveys measuring patient satisfaction with hospitals;
- Hospital quality metrics: data on quality of care for treatments, hygiene measures, patient safety and staffing;
- Patient-reported outcome measures implementation: online survey on implementation and use of PROMs in hospitals.
Incredibly, the four hospitals ranked tops in the world were all located in the U.S., with the Mayo Clinic (Minnesota) edging the Cleveland Clinic, Massachusetts General Hospital and Johns Hopkins Hospital (Maryland) for top honors.
