Sills Cummis & Gross opens South Florida office

Firm hires Selig, veteran local attorney, to run West Palm Beach-based location

Sills Cummis & Gross will launch its expansion into Florida on Tuesday morning, opening a location in West Palm Beach — and naming Robert Selig as the co-managing partner of the office.

The opening of the office, which is located at 222 Lakeview Ave., Suite 800, was the result of an ever-increasing number of Sills clients in South Florida — either permanently or regularly — said Max Crane, managing partner of the firm.

“Whether for weeks, months, seasons or permanently, many clients are spending more and more significant time there,” Crane said. “We closely follow our clients, recognizing the potential to assist them with new business opportunities.”

Staffing the office was not an issue, Crane said.

“Several members of our firm are admitted to practice in the state of Florida, and some have recently taken the Florida bar,” he said.

Crane said Selig, who was working in Boca Raton, was an easy pick to run the office.

“When we met Bob Selig, the choice was clear: We sought a seasoned 30-plus-year veteran of the Florida bar to help us launch and anchor our Florida office,” he said.

Selig has been working in South Florida for three decades, but he began his litigation career in the Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, District Attorney’s Office, where he rose to the position of chief of trials.

Over the years, Selig has developed a diverse litigation practice involving trusts and estates (including probate), commercial, construction, product liability and insurance matters. He also has experience handling transactional matters for select clients. His clients come from a diverse range of industries, including food, beverage, hospitality, insurance and transportation.

Selig, who has appeared in state and federal courts throughout the state of Florida, representing both plaintiffs and defendants for over 30 years, said he is eager to get started.

“I am thrilled to join Sills Cummis and co-manage the firm’s Florida office,” he said. “After careful consideration, and learning more about Sills Cummis, its exceptional team of attorneys and its commitment to client service, I am confident that this move will allow me to better serve my clients with a broader range of legal services and assist Sills Cummis’ clients in their many South Florida endeavors.”

Selig earned his J.D. from Widener University School of Law (Delaware) and his B.A. from Temple University. He is admitted to practice in Florida and Pennsylvania.
