Bergen County skilled nursing facility welcomes wound care specialist to clinical team

Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Bergen County recently announced the addition of wound care specialist Dr. Saraswati Dayal to its clinical team.

Located at 20 Breakneck Road in Oakland, the 215-bed skilled nursing facility provides post-hospital care, short-term rehab and long-term residential care.

Dayal, who is board certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, possesses an extensive background in wound care. Previously, she served as an attending trauma surgeon and the director of the 3N Surgical Stepdown Unit at Hackensack University Medical Center in Hackensack, and as a physician adviser for numerous other hospitals.

“Oakland is pleased to have Dr. Dayal join the clinical leadership team and provide oversight of its wound care specialty initiative,” Kani Burgos, regional director of market development at Marquis Health Consulting Services, which supports the center, said. “The facility continues to help lead the way in enhancing progressive skilled nursing services in the region.”

Dayal earned her medical degree from Howard University in Washington, D.C., graduating as valedictorian, and completed her residency and fellowship in general surgery/trauma and critical care at University Hospital in Newark. She is an advanced trauma life support director and wound care director at Select Specialty in Rochelle Park and Kindred Hospital in Passaic.

“Dr. Dayal is well regarded for her expertise in managing and successfully healing clinically complex wound cases,” Burgos said.

Oakland maintains Five-Star Overall and Quality Measures ratings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and it serves as a “preferred” provider for three local health systems.

“Oakland is known for its high quality of progressive skilled nursing care,” Dayal said. “I am excited about joining the facility’s dedicated team in caring for our patients, aiming to help them live life to the fullest.”

Oakland Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center recently earned reaccreditation for its quality care and services from the Joint Commission, the nation’s oldest and largest standards-setting and accrediting body in health care. Oakland was also named as one of the nation’s 2024 best nursing homes by both U.S. News & World Report and Newsweek in consecutive-year recognitions.

Brick-based Marquis Health Consulting Services provides administrative and consulting services to skilled nursing facilities and senior housing communities along the Eastern Seaboard. The organization’s operational guidance enables its client facilities to overachieve their quality and customer service goals by embracing a progressive, multispecialty approach to health care.
