Sanmina completes purchase of Secaucus-based firm’s data center infrastructure manufacturing business from AMD

Sanmina Corp., a manufacturing solutions provider serving the global electronics manufacturing services market, said Oct. 28 it has completed its acquisition of the ZT Systems data center infrastructure manufacturing business from AMD.

The combination positions Sanmina as a leader in the Cloud and AI end-market, enabling the company to further capitalize on significant growth opportunities. Financial terms were not disclosed.

In August 2024, AMD agreed to buy ZT Systems of Secaucus, a provider of AI infrastructure for hyperscale computing companies, in a cash and stock transaction valued at $4.9 billion.

As part of the agreement this week, Sanmina and AMD have committed to a strategic partnership where Sanmina is a U.S.-based, preferred new product introduction (NPI) manufacturing partner to accelerate quality and time-to-deployment of AMD cloud rack and cluster-scale AI solutions.

“I am pleased we were able to close the acquisition quickly and ahead of schedule,” said Jure Sola, chairman and CEO of Sanmina Corp. “The addition of ZT Systems significantly enhances our scale and deepens our engagement within the fast-growing Cloud and AI end-market. It expands our industry-leading capacity, bolsters our comprehensive end-to-end capabilities and reinforces Sanmina’s position as a trusted partner for mission-critical digital infrastructure globally. Our strategic partnership with AMD will bring solutions from concept to deployment with quality, speed and flexibility at scale.”

Sanmina said the addition of ZT Systems significantly enhances its position in the fast-growing Cloud and AI end-market; deepens cloud and AI hyperscaler customer relationships; brings ZT Systems’ large state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities located in New Jersey and Texas; reinforces Sanmina’s capabilities as a manufacturing partner for mission-critical technologies; and enables Sanmina to have the capabilities needed to partner with both hyperscaler and OEM customers.

AMD’s $4.9 billion purchase of ZT Systems in August 2024 marked a major step in AMD’s AI strategy to deliver leadership AI training and inferencing solutions based on innovating across silicon, software and systems. AMD was drawing on ZT Systems’ experience designing and optimizing cloud computing solutions that will also help cloud and enterprise customers accelerate the deployment of AMD-powered AI infrastructure at scale.
