Morris Educational Foundation awards $11K in grants to Morris School District

The Morris Educational Foundation (MEF) announced a new round of grants totaling $11,600 has been awarded to enrich the educational experience of students in the Morris School District.

These grants fund programs and resources are not covered by the school budget or tax dollars and bridge gaps to ensure students have access to learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

The MEF supports innovative initiatives that inspire creativity, strengthen academic excellence, and bring hands-on learning experiences throughout the school year. With this latest round of grants, the foundation has awarded more than $100,000 to date this school year, because of the generosity of donors.

The following grants were awarded in January at the Morris School District Board of Education meeting:

One Good Scene Scriptwriting
A professional scriptwriter and actors will visit Morristown High School to guide advanced Creative Writing students in crafting and performing original short dialogue scenes, strengthening their storytelling and communication skills.

Writers Circle Workshops
Third-graders District-wide will participate in Writers Circle Workshops, which will provide interactive, confidence-building creative writing experiences that inspire a lasting love of storytelling.

Morristown High School Academics
A donor has designated two grants to support the Morristown High School chemistry and math departments, reinforcing continued community commitment to academic excellence.

“These grants reflect what’s possible when a community invests in its children,” said Ann Rhines, MEF grants chair and former teacher in the Morris School District Board of Education. “As an educator, I have seen firsthand how experiences like these ignite curiosity, build confidence, and create meaningful connections to learning. The MEF is proud to support programs that enrich classrooms and expand opportunities for every student.

Through strategic partnerships and the generosity of donors, the MEF continues to fund innovative programs that enhance education in all 10 Morris School District schools. Highlights and updates from these programs are shared on the foundation’s social media pages.

Additional grants will be awarded in March and May of 2026.

The Morris Educational Foundation is a 501(c)(3) corporation, enhancing educational opportunities for more than 5,700 students in all 10 schools of the Morris School District. Established to raise private funds for public education, the foundation works to enrich and inspire the academic pursuits of all students, from preschool through high school.
