Veteran political strategist Kevin Drennan has joined the New Jersey team of Mercury as managing director, the firm announced Thursday.
Drennan previously served as executive director of the New Jersey Senate Majority Office and as chief of staff to former Senate President Steve Sweeney.
Drennan also served in the administrations of U.S. Sen. and Gov. Jon Corzine and worked on statewide political campaigns for U.S. Sens. Frank Lautenberg and Bob Menendez, as well as Corzine. In addition, he worked in corporate government affairs roles for UnitedHealth Group and Cablevision.
Michael Soliman, who leads the New Jersey office, said Drennan will be a huge addition.
“Kevin Drennan is a well-respected, highly-accomplished political strategist who knows how to get results, and we are thrilled to welcome him to Mercury,” Soliman said. “His decades of experience in Trenton working with leaders from across the state will be a huge asset to our clients.”
Mercury Partner Mo Butler welcomed Drennan to the team.

Drennan said he is eager for the opportunity.

Drennan is the treasurer of the board of trustees for Mercer County Community College and served as chair of the State House Joint Management Commission, chair of the Urban Enterprise Zone Authority and treasurer of the New Jersey Cable Telecommunication Association.
Drennan received his Bachelor of Arts in political science from The College of New Jersey and his master’s in city and regional planning from Rutgers University. He lives in Hamilton with his wife and two daughters.
