AtlantiCare celebrates ‘Special Delivery’ as its Safe Beginnings vehicle increases access to care for families and babies in A.C.

AtlantiCare Women’s and Children’s Services Team.

AtlantiCare’s Women’s and Children’s Services Team is celebrating the newest edition to its Safe Beginnings program. Nurses and doulas will use the colorful, branded Safe Beginnings vehicle to bring care to families and babies in Atlantic City from pregnancy through baby’s first birthday.

Launched in 2021, AtlantiCare’s Safe Beginnings program is a first-of-its-kind service in Atlantic City, working to address root causes of maternal and infant mortality. The program provides prenatal and postnatal services to families in Atlantic City, regardless of their ability to pay.

In addition to home visits, it offers a Transitions of Care Clinic and access to free baby safety items. The team of a certified nurse midwife, social worker, neonatologist, peer specialist, certified doulas and registered nurses is currently caring for 61 participants.

“AtlantiCare has long provided comprehensive, wraparound services for families and babies, including our Center for Childbirth, NICU, maternal fetal medicine, family planning and OB/GYN services,” Sandra Garrett, assistant vice president, AtlantiCare Women’s and Children’s Services, stated. “Safe Beginnings complements AtlantiCare’s Women’s and Children’s Services by increasing access to care and resources.”

The “special delivery” celebration took place on the Ohio Avenue block of AtlantiCare’s new Medical Arts Pavilion, which will open this fall. Located across the street from AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Atlantic City Campus, the pavilion will be the new home for Safe Beginnings and other AtlantiCare programs and services aimed at increasing access to care for the Atlantic City Community.
