AST celebrates topping-off ceremony at 15-story, state-of-the-art RWJ Medical Pavilion in New Brunswick

A major milestone took place Tuesday in New Brunswick for a 229,000-square-foot, 15-story state-of-the-art ambulatory medical pavilion at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, an RWJBarnabas Health facility — the topping-off ceremony and beam signing.

Representatives from developer AST and RWJBarnabas Health and New Brunswick Mayor James Cahill were all on hand to celebrate the building, which is scheduled for completion in the second quarter of 2023. The facility will be master-leased to RWJBarnabas Health, increasing access to comprehensive care in the region.

Situated in the heart of New Brunswick’s health care district, the building uses the cutting edge of medical space construction. The building will be defined by a curved glass exterior that will serve as a powerful symbol of the hospital’s commitment to building healthier communities in New Brunswick, the region and as a destination for advanced specialty care.

“Our track record of development success is defined by an unparalleled expertise in collaboratively designing and delivering projects that stand the test of time and reflect the needs of their local communities,” Robert D’Anton, president of AST, stated. “Our work with RWJBarnabas Health and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital exemplifies this expertise in action. We look forward to continuing to work closely with them to help the system achieve its mission of creating and sustaining healthy communities.”

Once completed, the RWJUH Ambulatory Medical Pavilion will support RWJUH centers of excellence service lines in an outpatient setting and include leading-edge exam rooms designed to enhance clinical practice workflows that focus on enhancing the patient experience. The facility will also feature a modern ground floor lobby with a café and a connection to the adjacent public parking garage.

“The new medical pavilion expands access to the region’s top experts in a modern, more efficient setting that is optimized for both patient experience and clinical effectiveness. With dramatically increased demand for sophisticated care in our centers of excellence services, like cardiovascular and neuroscience, this new facility will greatly increase our ability to address the needs in our community and provide room for growth in the future,” Bill Arnold, CEO and president, Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital, said. “We believe the design of the RWJUH Ambulatory Medical Pavilion will meet the needs of our expert clinicians while also redefining the patient experience.”
