Endocrine surgical expert Shifrin joins CentraState Healthcare System to head new program

Board-certified endocrine surgeon Dr. Alexander Shifrin has joined the staff of Surgical Associates of CentraState and CentraState Healthcare System in Freehold as the surgical director of CentraState’s Endocrine Program.

Shifrin, who has performed thousands of endocrine surgeries over his career, will focus exclusively on diagnosis and surgical treatment of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal disease.

“Dr. Shifrin brings nationally renowned expertise in endocrine surgery to our team that will greatly benefit patients in our region, and we are honored that he has chosen to practice here,” said Dr. Alexander Itskovich, medical director of the Statesir Cancer Center at CentraState. “He is a thought leader in the field who will bring tertiary endocrine care to our system.”

A national leader in his field, Shifrin has played key roles in clinical trials and is a prolific author, having written or contributed to dozens of textbooks and other publications on endocrine surgery.

Shifrin performs innovative techniques in minimally invasive surgeries, including outpatient thyroid and outpatient parathyroid surgery, posterior retroperitoneoscopic adrenalectomy surgery, minimally invasive video-assisted endoscopic parathyroidectomy and ultrasound guided FNA thyroid biopsy.

He is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Endocrinology, the International Society of Surgery, the European Board of Surgery (endocrine surgery), and board-certified in surgery by the American Board of Surgery, and in endocrine neck ultrasound and FNA thyroid biopsy by the American College of Endocrinology.

“I am thrilled to join the CentraState Healthcare System team and looking forward to providing care to both my current and new patients while growing comprehensive endocrine services here,” he said.
