Wells Fargo spreads holiday cheer for caregivers, families at Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital

Volunteers assemble 150 care packages for caregivers and refresh rooms at state-of-the-art health care facility

In support of health care workers and patient families during the holiday season, volunteers from Wells Fargo’s New Jersey and New York offices teamed up with the Bristol Myers Squibb Children’s Hospital at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital for a corporate volunteer day last week.

The effort, led by Wells Fargo’s head of operations and the chair of the RWJBarnabas Health board of trustees, Lester Owens, involved assembling 150 care packages for patient caregivers, as well as the painting and refreshing of a multipurpose room at BMSCH. The care packages included items such as activity books, water bottles, lip balm, sanitizer, mints and other comfort items, and will be distributed to caregivers right away.

“The holidays can be a difficult time for families with children in the hospital, so we are immensely grateful for Wells Fargo’s support in helping to make this time as bright as possible,” Mark Manigan, president of RWJBarnabas Health, stated. “As chairman, Lester brings a tremendous amount of passion and commitment to our mission to improve the health of our communities. This is just one of the many times he’s made a positive impact on the health and well-being of the RWJBH team and our patients and families.”

“Wells Fargo is committed to helping strengthen communities across the country, and I am honored to share this moment during the holiday season with my Wells Fargo colleagues, putting ‘Bank of Doing’ into action,” Owens said. “We’re glad to provide support and care to such an incredible health care organization and the families it serves, especially at this time.”

“I was born in this hospital and am personally committed to ensuring the communities we serve receive the very best care,” Jack Morris, chair, RWJUH board of trustees, said. “Seeing my dear friend, Lester Owens, and the Wells Fargo team taking up this cause means a lot to me, and I know it means a lot to our hospital leadership, our staff and the patients and families who entrust us with their care.”

The holiday volunteer event will be the first in a series of projects Owens will lead with the health system on behalf of Wells Fargo as the two organizations continue to partner to make a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of the surrounding communities.
