Summer schedule: United adds direct flights to Dubai, Stockholm and Malaga, Spain

Carrier also adding additional flights to Edinburgh and Naples

Want to get away – to Europe or the Middle East?

United Airlines announced Thursday that – in conjunction with international summer travel – it has added three new destinations from Newark: Dubai, Stockholm and Malaga, Spain.

Here’s a closer look:

Newark to Dubai, UAE: On March 25, United launched daily service between Newark and Dubai, UAE, operated on a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. The flight is part of a historic commercial agreement between the airline and Emirates that will enhance each airline’s network and give their customers easier access to hundreds of destinations within the United States and around the world.

United is the only U.S. airline to offer non-stop flights to Dubai from the U.S. and flies to more destinations in the Middle East and India than any other U.S. airline.

Newark to Stockholm, Sweden: On May 27, United will return to Stockholm for the first time since 2019 with service from Newark. United will reconnect customers to this culturally rich and dynamic capital city with daily flights on a Boeing 757-200.

Newark to Malaga, Spain: United is adding a fifth Spanish destination to its global network with three new direct flights per week between Newark and Malaga, starting May 31 on a Boeing 757-200.

United flies to more destinations in Spain than any other U.S. airline and this summer will offer direct flights to three Spanish cities that no other U.S. airline serves: Malaga, Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca.

United also has added a second seasonal frequency from Newark to Edinburgh, Scotland from May 25-Oct. 27 and from Newark to Naples, Italy from June 23-Sept. 7.

Patrick Quayle, senior vice president of global network planning and alliances, said the airline was eager to add the service.

“United will give travelers more options than ever this summer – especially if they want to fly internationally,” he said. “With unprecedented demand for travel overseas, we’ll fly more often to popular cities while also adding new and unique destinations for customers to explore.”

United efforts were noted by Gov. Phil Murphy and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka.

“As we continue our determined efforts to promote accessible and affordable transportation within the Garden State, the new destinations offered by United will also enable New Jerseyans to broaden their global horizons and aspirations,” Murphy said.

“Thriving in the 21st-century global economy means connecting communities – both domestic and international – to economic opportunity and each other. This development, in addition to incentivizing travel and economic activity in New Jersey, further underscores Newark Liberty International Airport’s status as one of the most critical air travel hubs in the world.”

Baraka agreed.

“Newark is proud to be a city of connectivity,” he said. “From our neighborhoods and communities to our transportation, and our international airport, Newark strives to break down barriers, encourage free exchange, and emphasize how interconnected we are.

“United’s added flights gives our airport’s name all the more validation. In a city steeped in diversity, ours is an airport that represents Liberty to so many. We celebrate travelers’ freedom to journey to new destinations and discover how people everywhere belong to each other.”
