Leading gastroenterologist joins GANJ, expanding care to North Jersey’s Middle Eastern communities

Dr. Kamal M. Amer, a Palestinian-American who grew up in Paterson, has joined Gastroenterology Associates of New Jersey to expand care to Middle Eastern communities in Passaic County and beyond.

In addition to being board-certified in gastroenterology, hepatology and nutrition, Amer is also board certified in obesity medicine. He has participated in several national and international conferences, published several manuscripts and is currently involved in ongoing research.

Amer will be based out of two of GANJ’s Passaic County locations: 205 Browertown Road, Suite 201, Woodland Park; and 764 Main St., Suite 303, Paterson.

“I always knew I wanted to work with my hands,” Amer said. “I love the cerebral aspect of medicine and the straightforwardness of the field where we can identify what’s not working well, target it and improve patient lives. As a doctor, my commitment to compassionate care and patient well-being remains unwavering. Together with GANJ, we will not only heal bodies, but also nurture trust, understanding and empathy through every interaction. I look forward to collaborating with my fellow colleagues and leveraging our collective expertise to elevate the standard of health care provided to our community.”

A graduate of Passaic County Technical Institute with a focus on medical arts, Amer continued his undergraduate education at The College of New Jersey, where he graduated magna cum laude. He continued his education into medical school at Rutgers-New Jersey Medical School, where his exceptional academic achievements and leadership skills were also recognized when he was elected the president of Alpha Omega Alpha (the medical honor society). Amer pursued internal medicine residency training at Thomas Jefferson University, before returning to Rutgers-NJMS to undergo specialized training in gastroenterology. During his fellowship, he was elected as the chief fellow for his department, showcasing his leadership and expertise in the field.

“We are thrilled to have Dr. Amer join our team at GANJ,” Steven Puchik, chief operating officer of Gastroenterology Associates of New Jersey, said. “His expertise, compassionate approach to patient care, and commitment to community health will undoubtedly make a positive impact on the lives of many.”
