Always-popular Newark Restaurant Week sets lineup

Event, to be held Sept. 22-Oct. 1, already has nearly 3 dozen establishments lined up

Here’s the best thing about the always popular Newark Restaurant Week: It actually lasts more than seven days.

This year’s event will run 10 days, Sept. 22-Oct. 1, which is a good thing. You’re going to need it to sample a restaurant community that is as diverse as the city’s residents. (See the list of participating restaurants at the bottom of the story.)

Attendees will enjoy an array of prix fixe menus and exclusive offers on breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner offerings, spanning a range of dishes, cocktails and treats. Best of all, organizers said, many of the venues are proudly owned by local Newark entrepreneurs, exemplifying the city’s burgeoning small business community.

This year, Newark Restaurant Week is introducing the #NewarkRW Foodie Passport, encouraging attendees to explore the city’s neighborhoods. Eating at and collecting a passport stamp from one restaurant in each of Newark’s five wards offers event attendees the opportunity to enter a drawing for a $1,000 Newark Gift Card once the event concludes.

The event is sponsored by Invest Newark, with support of the Junction at Gateway (Newark’s new “Restaurant Row”), Rutgers University – Newark and the New Jersey Devils.

Invest Newark CEO Marcus Randolph said the event figures to be better than ever.

“Newark has truly mastered the art of food, standing out as a beacon of culinary artistry. Through Newark Restaurant Week, we are showcasing the abundance of remarkable dining establishments that grace our city,” he said.

“We’re thrilled to provide both Newark residents and visitors the chance to delve into our city’s distinctive flavors and uncover its burgeoning food and beverage talents and offerings.”
