Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience at JFK University Medical Center welcomes co-chair of stroke & neurovascular service

Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at JFK University Medical Center recently announced the appointment of Dr. Brian Jankowitz as co-director of JFK University Medical Center’s Stroke and Neurovascular Center. Jankowitz is a neurosurgeon who joins JFK University Medical Center from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, where he served as division head of cerebrovascular surgery and associate professor of neurosurgery since 2021.

With more than 20 years of clinical and academic experience in neurosurgery, Jankowitz has been affiliated with the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Cooper University Hospital in Camden, and the University of Pennsylvania, having run the cerebrovascular center at the latter two institutions. He is widely known for his expertise in acute neurological disorders, mainly focusing on hemorrhagic and ischemic stroke.

“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Jankowitz to the Hackensack Meridian Neuroscience Institute at JFK University Medical Center as the head of our cerebrovascular service line,” Amie Thornton, president and chief hospital executive, said. “His outstanding record of accomplishments and leadership in the field of neurosurgery for patients with complex stroke are noteworthy and unparalleled. He will contribute greatly to our record of clinical excellence in neurosurgery.”

“It’s an honor for me to continue my service in neurosurgery at JFK University Medical Center,” Jankowitz said. “My passion in medicine has always been neurosurgery, and I am humbled by the chance to help the people who depend on JFK for their critical care needs.”

Jankowitz completed neurological surgery residency and neuro-endovascular surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine. He graduated from the Temple University School of Medicine and is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame, where he studied biology.
