New Jersey has three universities that are among the top in the world, according to US News & World Report.
Princeton University made the Top 10 in the publication’s Best Global Universities ranking, at No. 9 overall, with a rating of 84.2 based on 13 factors.
It is the third-best university worldwide for mathematics, while coming in at No. 6 for space science, No. 8 in geosciences and No. 10 in physics, according to the rankings.
Rutgers University in New Brunswick tied for 97th, with a 66.2 rating.
Its best showing among categories was 29th, both for mathematics and arts and humanities.
The state’s final spot on the list of 1,250 universities was New Jersey Institute of Technology, which tied for No. 813, with a 31.8 rating.
The subject to major in there is engineering, with a global ranking at the 217th spot.
The overall 2018 ranking encompasses more schools than ever before — 1,250 universities located across 74 countries. This is an increase from the 1,000 schools in 65 countries included in last year’s edition.
Four of the Top 5 schools were American, as the best on the list were:
- Harvard University, Massachusetts (100 score);
- Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Massachusetts (97.3 score);
- Stanford University, California (92.3 score);
- University of California-Berkeley, California (90.8 score);
- University of Oxford, United Kingdom (87.3 score).
