Bacharach Institute for Rehabilitation CEO and President Richard Kathrins has been elected chairman of the American Medical Rehabilitation Provider Association’s board of directors.
He will assume office with the national association on Jan. 1.
Philip J. Perskie, chairman of the Pomona-based institute’s board of directors, said the honor is fitting.
“Our community benefits immensely by having someone of Richard’s respected and esteemed expertise leading our hospital,” he said. “We congratulate him.
“The recognition of his accomplishments by AMRPA just validates what we already know. He is at the very top of his field; there is no one better.”
Kathrins has been CEO and president of Bacharach since 1991.During that time, he has helped the institute become one of the leading destinations for serious care for stroke, brain and spinal cord injuries.
The institute, founded in 1924, has grown from one building to an award-winning inpatient and outpatient rehabilitation hospital, 17 physical therapy centers in four counties, two hearing centers and two sleep disorders centers.
Bacharach is the only nonprofit acute rehabilitation hospital in southern New Jersey to hold 11 CARF accreditations, including the prestigious stroke specialty program accreditation.
Bacharach will open the James Klinghoffer Neurorecovery Center on Jan. 1. The center will feature the latest robotic rehabilitation technology — equipment Bacharach says cannot be found outside a major metropolitan hospital.
