Baker named partner at Genova Burns

Matthew Baker, a highly-thought-of attorney able to operate in a number of areas, has been promoted to partner at Newark-based Genova Burns, the firm announced this week.

With this elevation, Baker steps into a new leadership role, exemplifying the firm’s commitment to recognizing and nurturing talent from within its ranks.

“We are thrilled to announce Matthew’s promotion to partner,” co-founder and Chairman Angelo Genova said. “Matthew has been an integral part of our firm for many years, consistently showcasing his exceptional legal skills, dedication to client service and leadership. His promotion is well-deserved and reflects our confidence in his ability to continue making meaningful contributions to our firm and our clients.”

Throughout his career at Genova Burns, Baker has exhibited a remarkable ability to navigate complex legal matters with precision and integrity. His expertise spans a diverse range of practice areas, including complex litigation, constitutional and civil rights matters, election law and Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act matters.

Recently, Baker has capitalized on his experience as a former college athlete to spearhead a firm initiative created to advise clients on emerging sports and entertainment law matters related to the constantly changing NCAA landscape. His keen understanding of the law, coupled with his strategic approach to problem-solving, has earned him the respect of clients and colleagues alike.

Baker has also exhibited leadership in his pursuits outside of the office, having served on the board of the statewide nonprofit Lead New Jersey for the past seven years, three as chair, since being selected as a LNJ Fellow in 2016.  He has also served as a volunteer recreational basketball coach in Bergen County since 2021.

“I am deeply honored to be promoted to partner at Genova Burns,” Baker said. “I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our clients and contributing to the firm’s continued success.

“I want to specifically thank Angelo Genova and Jim Burns for their continued support. I also want to thank my family for their support and flexibility; this would not have happened without the sacrifices they have made.  I look forward to this new chapter and the opportunities it will bring to uphold the firm’s reputation for excellence.”

As a partner, Baker will play a pivotal role in shaping the future direction of Genova Burns, leveraging his experience and expertise to drive innovation, deliver exceptional client service and foster a culture of excellence and inclusivity within the firm.
