Virtua has cut about 50 employees after a reorganization sparked by changes in the health care industry.
“Uncertainty resulting from ongoing changes will continue to have a significant impact on health care institutions. Virtua is no exception,” spokeswoman Peggy Leone said in a statement. “In light of this environment, and following a careful evaluation, Virtua identified a number of opportunities for efficiencies and changes to programs that will allow the organization to meet these industry challenges while continuing to provide high-quality, affordable care.”
The changes included consolidating certain services. Those are primarily within the ambulatory programs and support departments, so as not to adversely impact patient care, she said.
The Marlton-based health care system employs about 9,000 people.
The employees affected were notified last month, Leone said.
Those employees are getting assistance to apply for any open positions within the organization, along with outplacement services and severance benefits.
“Virtua made these decisions from a position of strength and foresight as we embark upon the next era of health care,” Leone said “ We continue to be recognized for high-quality care, innovative partnerships, and programs. Virtua is adapting our business to meet the changing needs of the health care industry; we will grow and add new programs based on our patient and community needs.
