The deadline for eligible homeowners and renters to apply for the popular Affordable New Jersey Communities for Homeowners and Renters property tax relief program, from Nov. 30 to Dec. 6., Department of the Treasury’s Division of Taxation announced on Wednesday.
The one-week extension is intended to give eligible taxpayers additional time to file their application after the Thanksgiving holiday.
“With the busy holiday season upon us, we’ve extended the ANCHOR season to ensure all qualifying New Jerseyans are able to apply for this significant property tax relief,” State Treasurer Elizabeth Maher Muoio. “We encourage homeowners and renters across New Jersey to check their eligibility and apply so that those who qualify do not miss out on this important benefit.”
To date, the Division of Taxation has distributed over 1.6 million ANCHOR benefits totaling more than 1.9 billion dollars. Payments range from $450 to $1,500, with applicants over age 65 receiving an additional $250.
Over 1.45 million applications were filed automatically this season for residents who received an ANCHOR benefit in previous seasons and received an ANCHOR Benefit Confirmation Letter this summer. Additionally, the Division has received 500,000 applications from new filers to date.
Information about the program is available at anchor.nj.gov, including detailed FAQs for homeowners and renters. Applicants may also call the ANCHOR hotline (609) 826-4282 or 1-888-238-1233. Phone lines may be busy at times during the ANCHOR season, so applicants may choose to seek in-person assistance at a Regional Information Center or at a number of outreach events hosted this fall across the state.
