On Jan. 30, PSE&G presented a check for nearly $37,000 to Henry Wong, the owner of Carvel in Hopewell Township, as part of its energy efficiency program designed to help small businesses save on utility costs.
The incentive helped Carvel complete several successful upgrades, which included replacing two aging rooftop units with energy-efficient models equipped with dual enthalpy economizers and smart thermostats.
These upgrades not only improve the ice cream shop’s energy efficiency but also enhance comfort for customers and employees.
Additionally, Carvel was able to offset upfront costs using PSE&G’s zero-interest, five-year, on-bill repayment option, saving approximately $10,000 on installation and maintenance.
New Jersey Board of Public Utilities President Christine Guhl-Sadovy emphasized the importance of energy efficiency programs in supporting local businesses.
“Energy efficiency programs aren’t just policies on paper — they’re delivering real results for businesses and residents. Seeing a small business owner like Henry Wong benefit from these programs is exactly what it’s all about. Not only are they saving money on their utility bills, but they’re also contributing to New Jersey’s clean energy future in a meaningful way,” she said.
Rachael Fredericks, director, Energy Services, Clean Energy Solutions at PSE&G, echoed the importance of these programs.
