Two Jefferson Health Department of Nursing employees from Gloucester County in New Jersey received annual nursing scholarships through the Magnet-designated health care organization.
The two — one employed at Jefferson Stratford Hospital and the other a resource nurse who works across all three Jefferson New Jersey hospitals — were selected by the nursing selection committee based on their academic achievements and support of Jefferson’s mission, vision, and values.
Joy Arteaga, a resident of Newfield, is a Jefferson Stratford Hospital Emergency Department registered nurse and is enrolled at Wilmington University pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing degree. She will receive a $4,500 scholarship.
Julia Magyar, a resident of Thorofare, is a resource registered nurse who works across all three East Region campuses and attends Wilmington University’s master of science in nursing degree leadership and education program. She will receive an $8,000 scholarship.
“Jefferson is committed to promoting lifelong learning and professional development,” said Jefferson Health – East Region Chief Nursing Officer Diane Juliano. “We are thrilled to offer these scholarships and are very grateful for our donors’ generosity, which makes these scholarships possible.”
Each year, Jefferson offers various nursing scholarships: an entry-level non-RN scholarship, open to all clinical and non-clinical employees aspiring for a bachelor of science in nursing degree; the Gartzman Fund RN-to-BSN Scholarship; and the Leadership Scholarship, open to current BSN- and MSN-level nurses aspiring to earn a master’s or doctorate in nursing degree.
The nursing scholarships are supported annually by Jefferson employees, the Gartzman family, and other donors. The Gartzman Fund Scholarship is in memory of then-Kennedy Health physician Alan Gartzman, who was killed in 1985 while driving home from visiting a long-term care patient.
