NJBankers hold volunteer event at Community FoodBank of NJ

The New Jersey Bankers Association hosted a Volunteer Day at the Community FoodBank of New Jersey’s Hillside warehouse, the first event as part of its Bankers Care initiative focused on the power of giving back.

The NJBankers Charitable Foundation presented the food bank with a $1,500 donation in support of the event and the Bankers Care initiative, which NJBankers launched late last year.

Initiated by the Washington Bankers Association, Bankers Care is a nationwide movement that highlights the different ways banks support residents – from financial education and volunteering to supporting local nonprofits and small businesses.

“New Jersey’s banks are dedicated to giving back to the communities in which they serve, each year devoting thousands of hours to community service and donating millions of dollars to nonprofit organizations across New Jersey,” said Brittany Wheeler, NJBankers vice president/director of government affairs.

“Bankers care about their neighbors and understand the importance of strengthening our communities.”

At the food bank, about 40 members of NJBankers Emerging Leaders Network – a group consisting of the next generation of bank and business leaders – helped support the food bank’s senior box project by packing food boxes for older New Jersey residents in need, along with packing bags of pasta to be distributed to the food bank’s network of more than 800 local feeding partners.

In total, the group assembled 280 senior boxes and packed 920 bags of pasta.
