DeMattos joins Marquis Health Consulting Services as senior vice president, public affairs

Marquis Health Consulting Services, based out of Brick, said March 5 that Joseph DeMattos was named as senior vice president of public affairs.

DeMattos is a widely respected government relations, health care policy and communication professional who has a history of advancing critical issues for the long-term care sector and the aging population.

Marquis supports skilled nursing centers and senior living communities in eight states along the Eastern Seaboard. In his new position, DeMattos is leading stakeholder engagement to advance the organization’s mission, reputation and influence across the post-acute, long-term care and senior living landscape. He advises executive leadership on public affairs and policy, external engagement, communications and leadership.

DeMattos works closely with industry associations, advocacy organizations and government and community leaders to drive innovation, strengthen outcomes and elevate care in the communities Marquis serves.

DeMattos previously served as president and CEO of the Health Facilities Association of Maryland, at one time the state’s largest and oldest long-term care association. He was also senior state director of AARP Maryland and held national AARP leadership roles supporting campaigns for Medicare Prescription Drug and Social Security.

“Joe is a well-known senior public affairs executive, trusted adviser and nationally recognized advocate with deep knowledge of the opportunities and challenges this industry faces, and he is a long-time friend of the Marquis family,” said Barry Munk, chief executive officer. “His boots-on-the-ground approach is a great fit for our organization. We are pleased to welcome his expertise and support of Marquis’ mission to help clients transform industry processes, mindsets and outcomes.”

DeMattos’ experience spans health care, aging services, non-profit leadership, private enterprise and government also include senior public service roles within Hawaii state government, and a career in crisis communications with a leading public relations firm in Hawaii. DeMattos serves as a visiting professor at the Erickson School of Management of Aging Services at University of Maryland Baltimore County.

“I have admired this company and its leadership from the start, watching them grow in a thoughtful, strategic manner,” said DeMattos. “Marquis is recognized for always prioritizing quality for its clients – and the industry as a whole. I look forward to working hand in hand with the exceptional teams at Marquis, and its client centers and communities to address essential issues and enhance key relationships.”
