Honeywell buildings unit’s leader leaves; replacement named

Honeywell has named a new leader for its Building Technologies unit, it announced, promoting a veteran company executive to the post.

Vimal Kapur, who had been president of Honeywell Process Solutions, has become CEO and president of Building Technologies, effective immediately. He has served in a variety of leadership roles at Honeywell, including with the Advanced Solutions business and with Honeywell Automation India Ltd., among others.

Kapur, who will be a company officer, will report to Chairman and CEO Darius Adamczyk. He will also oversee the Homes business, with new CEO and President Michael G. Nefkens reporting to him until the spinoff of that unit. (Building Technologies will remain with Honeywell, the company added.)

“Vimal is an outstanding leader who has proven his ability to consistently drive outstanding business results by thoroughly understanding the markets he serves and generating tremendous value for his customers,” Adamczyk said in a prepared statement. “He has been a big leader of our transformation ot become a premier software-industrial company with his focus on expanding our Connected Plant offerings and driving breakthrough growth areas such as our rapidly growing Cyber Security business.

“He has also been effective in integrating businesses such as Elster and Thermal Solutions into the Process Solutions portfolio, all to the benefit of our customers. I have no doubt that Vimal will apply his insights and experience to the buildings industry and spearhead a wide range of growth platforms for Honeywell.”

Kapur replaces Gary Michel, who is leaving the Morris Plains-based conglomerate for a CEO position at another, noncompeting public company.

“We regret losing a talented leader like Gary Michel, who has made significant strides in improving the performance of Home and Building Technologies since joining Honeywell last year,” Adamczyk said. “Gary is excited about the opportunity to be CEO of a public company, and we wish him all the best in his new endeavor.”

Honeywell said John Rudolph will succeed Kapur as president of HPS. He has led the business’s Projects and Automation Solutions unit for the past year, and previously led the Lifecycle Solutions and Services business.
