Princeton University placed No. 9 on the U.S. News & World Report list of top global universities released this week. It was one of four New Jersey universities to be honored.
Rutgers-New Brunswick was listed at No. 103. New Jersey Institute of Technology came in at No. 782. Rutgers-Newark was listed at No. 1,001.
The list included 1,250 schools.
U.S. News said it ranked schools from more than 60 countries, judging them on 13 indicators that measure the school’s academic research performance and its global and regional reputations.
Princeton was ranked in 19 different subject areas, including Top 20 selections in mathematics (3), space science (5), geosciences (9), physics (10), arts and humanities (14), economics and business (15), environment/ecology (17) and computer science (18).
Rutgers was ranked in 22 different subject areas, with its highest marks coming in arts and humanities (26), mathematics (33), pharmacology and toxicology (37) and agricultural sciences (43).
NJIT was ranked in two subject areas: computer science (164) and engineering (211).
Rutgers-Newark was ranked in one subject area: Neuroscience and behavior (244).
The global rankings are scored differently than the rankings of U.S. schools. In that list, Princeton was No. 1, Rutgers was No. 56 and NJIT was No. 106.
