Somerset-based drug delivery company Catalent is expanding a Kentucky manufacturing facility in a project that could cost as much as $40 million, it announced Monday.
The company said in a news release that it will install new equipment at the Winchester, Kentucky, plant to increase formulation and controlled-release tablet and capsule manufacturing capabilities and capacity.
The upgrades will include a laser drill, spray dryer and automated bottling line, among other equipment, Catalent said.
“Our Winchester facility provides customers with a high degree of flexible manufacturing solutions and has a proven track record of success with technology transfers and product launches,” Rick Tucker, general manager for Catalent Winchester, said in a prepared statement. “We have a clear investment strategy at the site that is not only driven by immediate customer needs, but also looks to the future in anticipation of demand and new technologies.”
The 180,000-square-foot plant opened in 1992 and underwent a $35 million improvement project in 2015.
